Hi I read stuff from here, translate it and take notes of words I find interesting to learn the language.
I'm not sure if that's an effective way to learn russian but I did make some improvements on reading Cyrillic so far.

Start with Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy (a relative of Leo Tolstoy). His The Family of the Vourdalak is a short story of just 10 pages that will perfectly inspire you to explore Russian literature. After that, you can move on to more serious, philosophical, and heavy chthonic works.

Not OP but im on and off learning Russian because the level of discourse on ru net is far higher than anything in the English speaking web apart from ultra niche communities. It sounds silly when i write it like this, and I can't exactly pinpoint what happened to Western discourse, or whether it's something that will eventually find its way here, but it's the truth.

Language seemed difficult in the beginning, but that was mostly the alphabet. To me Russian feels much closer to Greek than English.

Russian language has some greek borrow words due to Greek being a for a long time a part of higher education, same as Latin. Not only that, but there also is a hefty chunk of words coming through Church Slavonic precursor of Russian, which has a big Greek influence too.

American literature is just as masterful in terms of its ideas. I just meant that I can't experiment with words in English with the same flexibility and flair. It doesn't mean English is a primitive language; it's just that the structure of the language itself doesn't allow me to do that.

You can order keyboard stickers with Russian letters and put them on using a Russian layout as a guide. Or you could just order a keyboard with Russian letters right away. That would be much more convenient.
